A lake. Alternative spelling seen on some maps is Lake Rogerene. Original name for this lake was 'Mountain Pond', name was changed circa 1912 by Real Estate Developers. See our website for historical info: www.RoxburyNewJersey.com/ The area was settled around 1705 by residents of the Pilgrim Colony of New London. They were a devout Christian group known as Rogerenes, named after their founder, John Rogers (1648-1721), a dissenter from the established Congregational Church of Colonial Connecticut. By the American Revolution they had move to South Jersey.
