Hopatcong is a Borough in Sussex County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 Census, the borough population was 15,147.

The Borough of Hopatcong, originally known as the Town of Brooklyn, encompasses the western shore of Lake Hopatcong and lands to the west including Bear Pond. The history of the Borough of Hopatcong parallels the history of the Lake - from its emergence as a great hotel resort, to its evolution into a summer community similar to the Jersey shore, and its eventual transformation into an all year round community.

The borough originally started as a summer resort town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries accessible by the Morris Canal and the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. In the 1950's the population shifted to a New Jersey bedroom community increasing in population to about 15,000 in 1980 with little change since then.
