A 15 acre zoo with over 200,000 annual visitors. Alaska zoo is home to over 100 birds and 40 species of mammals. In addition to animals native to Alaska, this zoo offers "exotic" animals such as Amur tigers, Bactrian camels, yaks, and elephants.
Many of the animals were founed orphaned or injured before being rought to the zoo. Originally opened as "Alaska Children's Zoo" in 1969.
