The Dacian fortress was discovered during the systematic excavations from 1961 - 1962. Being an isolated rock with very steep slopes, the access was possible only on the North side. The road was barred, at the beginning, with a wave of earth and stone, and later with a wave of stone. The premises that surrounds one of the plateau's terraces was risen up from limestone blocks, carved in the same technics with the one used for the Dacian fortresses from The Sebes Mountains. In the highest point has been built a house-tower, that could be reached using a stairs digged in rock. The Dacian fortress from Banita is contemporary with the ones from The Sebes Mountains, with the purpose to hinder from advancing an enemy that would have come from from South, through The Jiu Rovine. In times of peace one of the important Dacian noblemen had the residence here.
