  • Sewickley was the long-time home to Capt. Fred Way, Jr., who piloted steamboats and towboats on the Ohio River. He was, at his death, the number one steamboat historian in the world. Among his publications were "Way's Directory of Western River Packets", "Way's Steam Towboat Directory", and other lesser known works. He was also the editor of the "Inland River Record", published annually at least back to the 1940s. The IRR is still published annually by the Waterways Journal, in St. Louis, and lists all commercial vessels on the Mississippi River system.
