Slatina

Romania / Olt / Slatina /
city, municipality, draw only border, county seat

Slatina (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈslatina]) is the capital city of Olt county, Romania, on the river Olt.
The city administers one village, Cireaşov.
The town of Slatina was first mentioned on January 20, 1368 in an official document issued by Vladislav I Vlaicu, Prince of Wallachia. The document stated that merchants from the Transylvanian city of Braşov would not pay customs when passing through Slatina. The word Slatina is of Slavic origin, stemming from Slam-tina, "salted land" or "salty water".
Alro Slatina, the largest aluminum producing factories in Southeastern Europe, is located in the city. Other companies based in Slatina include ALPROM (which, like ALRO, is a subsidiary of VIMETCOGROUP), Altur (engine set manufacturer), Pirelli Tires Romania (tire-manufacturer), Cord Romania (steel cord for tires), and Benteler.
One of the oldest private businesses in Romania is the Slatina-based pastry shop La atletul albanez ("The Albanian Athlete")

This city is considered to be the City of Aluminum in Romania. Here there used to be the most larges aluminum factory in Europe in the Communists era, Now instead of one big factory there are lots of small firms specialized in working whit aluminum making all kinds of mechanical and electronic devices.

Slatina is still the city of aluminium and Alro is still the biggest aluminium factory in Eastern and Central Europe (excludind Russia). Alro is now the owner of Alum Tulcea another aluminium factory in Romania. In Slatina you can also find Pirelli Tyres (wich unfortunately doesn't appear on the map) the biggest tyre factory in Eastern and Central Europe, TMK Artrom, the biggest pipes factory in Romania and other few small and medium size factories. Also, in 2009 Honsel will begin the construction of a new mechanical parts factory (with a total investment of 100 million euros). Also, Slatina is one of the oldest cities in Romania (since 1368) with a well and interesting old city preserved part.
