Headquarters of the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles. The building was constructed with assistance from the Public Works Administration (PWA), a New Deal program that operated during the Great Depression between 1933 and 1944. The program provided funds to private contractors to build large-scale projects proposed by states as a means of economic stimulus.
