USA / New Jersey / Salem / Hancock's Bridge, New Jersey / Front Street, 3
NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, 1730s construction, historic house

3 Front Street
Hancock's Bride, NJ 08038

Site of the Massacre of local Militia troops and William Hancock by the British. They crossed Alloway Creek under cover of darkness, and infiltrated the home of Judge Hancock. There they stabbed and bayonetted the Militia members who were allowed to bunk there by the Judge. Twenty died in all, and another 10-12 were wounded.

The house is restored beautifully, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There is a park ranger there, happy to give tours of the home. It is also part of the Coastal Heritage Trail.
