Horemheb, 1321-1293 B.C.
After King Tutankhamen died, the throne was supposed to have passed to the head of the army, Horemheb, but Horemheb was outmaneuvered by the grand vizier, Ay. After Ay's brief reign, Horemheb ascended the throne, and launched a campaign to remove Ay, Tutankhamen, and everything else connected with the Amarna heresy from the records. He is remembered as a great reformer who restored Egypt to sanity after the chaotic days that had come before.
