The stop lock, marking the original boundary between the Digbeth Branch of the Birmingham and Fazeley canal (owned by Birmingham Canal Navigations) and the Warwick and Birmingham canal (later, Grand Union Canal). The stop lock kept the waters of the canals isolated so that water was not poached from one company by the other. Now permanently chained open.
