This section of mid-town Kansas City is more properly named Armour Hills Gardens (Consisting of the Armour Hills, Oak Meyer Gardens & Rockhill Gardens neighborhoods). Armour Hills is only one neighborhood encompassed within this larger area designated in Real Estate Sources as Armour Hills Gardens. These neighborhoods were all part of J.C. Nichols' original suburban development of Kansas City, Missouri, which was based on succinct, neighborhoods, utilizing revolutionary and state-of-the-art urban planning techniques that would eventually influence future suburban developments throughout the United States. The lands were originally purchased from wealthy, landed families such as Armour, Ward, Rockhill, Meyer, etc.. While these neighborhoods were once true suburbs on the frontier of Kansas City's urban sprawl, they are now decidedly central within Kansas City's urban core. This area is notable for its beauty, character and park-like atmosphere with an abundance of mature trees, green space and historical appeal. It consists mostly of well-maintained, unique and architecturally tasteful middle class homes. Historically these neighborhoods have been predominantly but by no means exclusively Irish, Catholic.
