Lake Cliff Park (Dallas, Texas)

USA / Texas / Dallas / Dallas, Texas

Small urban lake that was the centerpiece attraction for the small city of Oak CLiff, immediately across the Trinity river from Dallas proper. Prior to the annexation of Oak Cliff by the city of Dallas Lake Cliff was a very high-tone attraction for people on both sides of the river, its cool lakeside, picnic areas, swimming beach and amusement area an excellent respite from the hot malarial unpleasantness of those parts of Dallas along the river. Like much of historic North Oak Cliff, Lake Cliff has been through a series of ups and downs over the last decades, years of apathy interspersed with half-hearted attempts at gentrification. Much refurbishing and a massive draining and dredging of the Lake during the 90's has led to something of a rebirth of the Lake and park as a local neighborhood park. The impending re-opening of Lake Cliff Towers, an adjacent high-rise formerly a retirement home, as high-tone, high-end condos will probably ignite another small bubble of gentrification in the neighborhood.
