Founded in 1933 under the Japanese, this is one of the best universities in North Korea.

Reports to the Science and Education Department under the KWP Central Committee while also under the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education), also known as Kim Il Sung Medical University after the Department of Medical Science at Kim Il Sung University became its own school in 1948.

There are approximately 200 faculty members and 2,000 students.
