Macdonald Burlington Hotel (Birmingham)

United Kingdom / England / Birmingham / New Street, 126

The plaza and arcade area which features a glass roof was designed by Malcolm Payne architects. It appears as an old building which has been regained and cleaned. In reality the facades here are new as the walkway was originally a passageway for pedestrians called Burlington Passage. The entire building is now the Burlington Hotel and backs onto New Street Station. It was formerly the Midland Hotel, the lettering remains in the masonry on the rear to the building. It is a stark architectural contrast to the New Street station.
