The Jewish cemetery experienced its first burial in 1898. It was associated with the B'nai David congregation whose synagogue was located at 2201 Elmhurst Street at 14th Street (now New Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church). The last recorded burial, of over 1,200 at the cemetery, took place in 2009.
In 2014, volunteers undertook the B’nai David Cemetery Care and Preservation Project to cleanup and maintain the cemetery.
