The original Cougar Stadium was built in 1964 with a seating capacity of 45,000. It was expanded in 1982 to seat 65,000. With the retirement of legendary head football coach LaVell Edwards, the stadium was renamed in his honor.
The press box, with seating for 120 members of the media, is located on the west side of the stadium, as are 42 enclosed loges. Large community events, such as the Fourth of July Stadium of Fire, are also held here.
