The Belgrade Arena (Serbian Cyrillic: Београдска арена, Serbian Latin: Beogradska arena) is an indoor arena at Novi Beograd in Belgrade, Serbia. It is designed as a universal hall for all sports events, including basketball, handball, volleyball, tennis, indoor athletics, an ice rink, and a hall for cultural events and other programmes. With a tital floor area of 48,000 sq m (516,000 sq ft) and a total capacity of 20,000 seats (including 64 luxury boxes), it is among the largest sport arenas in Europe and the world. Costing €70,000,000 to build, construction began in 1992 and, after a few interruptions, was finished in 2004. The arena received its permanent public use licence in 2006 after a temporary license earlier that year.
The Belgrade Arena hosted the European Men's Volleyball Championship in 2005, the European Basketball Championship in 2005, the European Table Tennis Championships in 2007, the European Judo Championships in 2007, the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, the opening and closing ceremonies and the basketball event of the 2009 Summer Universiade, the Davis Cup Final in 2010, the European Men's Handball Championship in 2012, the European Wrestling Championships in 2012, the European Women's Handball Championship in 2012, and the World Women's Handball Championship in 2013. It is also a premier concert venue.
