The Alley Theater is a performing arts complex in the Theater District of downtown Houston. Opened in 1968, it is the permanent home of the Alley Theatre, one of the oldest resident theater companies in the U.S. (the company was founded in 1947). The building was designed by architect Ulrich Franzen in the Brutalist style and consists of two venues: the 824-seat Hubbard Stage, and the 310-seat Heuhaus Stage. The theater was closed from July 2014 to September 2015 for a $56.5 million renovation project to modernize the theater's interior; however, the theater suffered major damage just two years later due to Hurricane Harvey.
