Делян is named for tsar Petar Delyan II, tsar of Bulgaria in 1048.

Birth place of the writer Spas Aleksiev Antonov who has a 3 floor house here. A part of his creative work are the local folk jokes.
Delyan is famous for his local wags that laugh at the ugly things in life. For instance, the road Bozhurishte-Breznik is filled with pot-holes, especially around Delyan. A local wag put a road-sign (pictured) that reads: "The path to Europe. Village of Delyan, Breznik Municipality". The Bulgarian TV presented a report about this sign and road. One can actually reach to Europe starting at the sign without leaving the road if he can manage all the pot-holes.
