This cross symbolises the landing of the Irish monk Columba (in french: Colomban) in 570 AD, the saint of the nearby town of St Coulomb. Colomba was then adorated by the European Merovingian powerful ruling family. He founded the abbey of Luxeuil then the Monastery of Bobbio in Italy and died in 615.
