mine, copper mine, mining, nickel mine/processing
This mine is owned by Xstrata Nickel and opened in 2004. It produces nickel ore which is treated at the Falconbridge smelter near Sudbury, and copper ore which is treated at the Kidd Creek smelter near Timmins.
The mine closed temporarily in early 2009 due to low metal prices, but an unexpected ground movement shortly after caused extensive damage to the mine workings, and as the mine only has 2 years of ore reserves remaining, it may never reopen.
