Sofia International Airport is the busiest and the most important airport in Bulgaria. There are regular flights to all major european cities, and some in Middle East and Africa. After recently finished extension, the airport obtain new terminal (Terminal 2) and runway. Airport had served 3,230,696 passengers for 2008 (increase of 18% on 2007) and some of 18,647 tones freights for 2008 (increase of 7% on 2007).

On July 22, 2020, the concession agreement for Sofia Airport was signed between the state and the Sof Connect consortium, with the Munich airport operator for 35 years and investments of 608 million euros for the term of the concession until 2035.
