Ross Township is one of the North Hills' busiest hubs of commercial activity, with commercial districts along McKnight Road, Perry Highway, and Babcock Boulevard. The township was formed in 1809 from Pine Township and named for James Ross, a prominent Pittsburgh attorney and two-term U.S. Senator. Ross' borders changed over the course of time, but have remained relatively unchanged since 1905 when the then-newly-formed Borough of West View cut a "donut hole" in the township.
