city hall, 1898_construction, Renaissance Revival (architecture)
Worcester City Hall opened in April 1898, face with grey milford granite, was designed in a Renaissance Revival style. The capanile tower is modeled on the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. The bronze star set in the sidewalk marks the spot where, on July 14, 1776, Isaiah Thomas read the Declaration of Independence for the first time to a New England aduience. On the interior, along the main stairway, hang the helmets and breastplates of two of Cromwell's soldiers who fell at the Battle of Worcester, England. www.ci.worcester.ma.us/
