This skyscraper is on the site of the former flagship of the Houston-based Foley's department store (1100 Main), which stood from 1947 to 2006, also holding their headquarters, before it was eliminated in 2005. The store was renamed Macy's in September 2006 as the Foley's name was eliminated. Over time, however (even before the Macy's conversion), the store had dwindled in levels so the selling space, which was once 9 plus basements was reduced to only about four. The original department store did connect with the Houston tunnel system, though that only happened much later, by then Foley's was in its twilight years. Macy's closed Saturday March 9, 2013, ending over 65 years of business, with the building gutted soon after in preparation for demolition. It was referred to in papers as the "Foley's Building", allowing the building to at least die as its own name. The building was imploded on the early morning of September 22nd, 2013, with the new building beginning construction within months.
