USA / New York / Cove Neck / Cove Neck, New York
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, historic remains

Estate home designed c. 1926 by John Russell Pope in the Georgian Revival style on originally 20 acres for Joseph J. Kerrigan {financier, diplomat}. Kerrigan was a stockbroker and an assistant to the United States Ambassator to Russia. The home features landscaping by Olmsted in 1929 and paneling imported from England in the form of a Louis XVI sun room and a Regency reception room.

The site was originally property owned by Charles Burton and sold in August of 1900 to Frederick H. Benedict and his second wife Virginia Coudert, daughter of Frederic Coudert. Benedict died in a motoring accident in Tuxedo Park in 1901. The estate was then sold to Edward Farley Whitney who hired Beatrix Jones Farrand to accomplish extensive renovations to the gardens. The house was demolished and a new home was constructed for Joseph J. Kerrigan by Pope.
