The statue of Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor) is the main Brazilian national symbol and offers a privileged panoramic view of the entire city of Rio de Janeiro.

The idea of the construction of Christ the Redeemer monument came to mark the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the independence of Brazil in the following year. The statue of Christ the Redeemer, was inaugurated on 12 October. The final design of the monument is the authoring artist Carlos Oswald and execution of the sculpture is the responsibility of the French Paul Landowski assisted.
