The monument in the form of a frigate on a high pedestal was opened in 1972.
A 15-meter, 40-ton model of a sailing vessel made of forged copper stands on a high pedestal on the Dnipro (Dnieper) embankment.
It is located on the site of the Kherson shipyard, where the 66-gun battleship “Slava Yekateryny” ('Catherine's Glory') was launched on September 16, 1783.
