Granville is a village founded by settlers from Granville, Massachusetts, a town of which it now has three times the population. Pioneer settlers also had strong ties to Wales. As late as the 1950's there were still a number of village residents who could speak the Welsh language. A hilly area northeast of the village is known as the Welsh Hills, in recognition of the region's early cultural links to Wales and in appreciation of its physical resemblence to that old country of origin. Granville is home to Denison University.

  • What an asshole you are, Smith. Granville is one of the most progressive and liberal towns in the midwest.
  • Smith has never been to Granville. It is a very progressive and attractive little town.
  • It's a good town to find Green Herb in. Other than that, it's just a lame college town.
  • This guy...Smith...does not know what he is talking about. Granville is a great small town...very unique in Ohio. The influence of Denison is tremedous and provides for a diverse mixture of people and ideas. Hardly conservative, it is the only town in Ohio to have war protestors out every Saturday for the last two years.
  • Granville has been home nearly my entire life. It is a greatly progressive town. In fact, it was the only district in the county for vote solidly for Kerry in 2004. There are a number of churches in town, but for the most part they tend to be liberal. There is a new Baptist church that split from the existing Baptist church to be a more conservative sect, so, like everywhere there is a dichotomy, Ultimately, Granville is unlike anywhere else in Ohio, for a number of reasons. And, FYI, the war protesters are still out every Saturday.
