The six story building designed by Alfred S Alschuler was constructed 1924-1926 for the Florsheim Shoe Company which manufactured shoes at the site until 1986. Founded by Milton Florsheim in 1892 to make high quality men's shoes utilizing leather produced by the Union Stock Yards and the city's 28 tanneries, by the 1920s, the company employed 2,500 employees in five factories in the Chicago area. In 1953 the company was acquired by St Louis, Missouri based International Shoe Company which transferred most of its shoe production overseas by the 1980s. In 1986, the facility became a warehouse for Records Management Services Inc. The building was converted into a 184 apartment unit condominium in 2006 and was given landmark status the same year.
