Battlefield Park is a National Historic Site of Canada commemorating the pivotal Battle of Stoney Creek which took place here on June 6, 1813 when the advancement of the American army into Upper Canada was halted. This was a major victory for the British forces and a turning point in the War of 1812 as it marks the furthest advance of American troops into Upper Canada during the conflict. The battle contributed to the permanent retreat of the Americans over the next year.
