  • This park is a desert oasis that is the best kept secret in Oregon. I live in the middle of a residential area on the Columbia river nearby. Many of the houses there cost in excess of 1/2 million dollars. The park itself is well maintained and has a large grassy, tree shadded area that is good for company picniks or weddings. Across the Hat Rock Road an artesian spring fills a lake which is often stocked with fish. There is an inlet nearby from the Columbia river and a good boat launch exists there. There are no fees for any park featuresd. The main attraction to tourists is a volcanic plug that has been exposed by giant floods at the end of the Ice Age. Lewis and Clark noted that the rock looked like a hat, and wrote it down in their journal
