  • I remember crossing this bridge many times and throwing my newly exchanged pisos to some poor kids who where swimming in what we used to call "Shit River". I wonder if that water has been cleaned up!
  • I was there in November 1978 off the USS Barb,a fast attack submarine. We would cross this bridge to go to the "Mile of Bars". And down below poor teenage girls in their best dresses and make-up would stand in thier canoes catching coins tossed by the sailors with thier wire catcher-baskets that looked like giant icescoops. I think the river was the city's sewer also. 4-20-2008
  • managing river in this country is always been a problem, it seems that whoever sits to govern the city never had clue that they need to prioritize and resolve this issue. There is so much river is to offer if this is maintain and use it properly. it was worse then 42 years ago. @ this present time looks there is no improvement.
  • I have pesos!
  • I told my shipmates about the weird dream I had. I was crossing a bridge and there were women in bright colored dresses with big cones made out of bamboo to catch coins, sitting in boats asking me to throw pesos. They laughed because it was no dream. Mojo makes you smart.
  • I was in Subic 1978-1979 and every time I crossed this bridge I would throw coins at the kids below and yell ":Who's number #1" the kids would respond "Seabees #1" . It got to the point were they would see me cross and would start screaming "Seabees #1, Seabees #1" and the other people walking with me couldn't understand how they knew us as Seabees. The last trip over the bridge I brought with me a handful of large washers and when they started screaming "Seabees #1, Seabees #1" I threw them up in the air and the kids just went crazy. When they started to come up from the bottom they realized they had been duped and screamed "Seabees Suck" !!!!
  • I was serving on the Connie (USS Constellation CV64) from 81-85. Hit the P.I. a few times. I remember hitting Olangapo City in 81 and crossing shit river for a night of fun, $40 in pocket. Crossed the bridge and threw pennies at the lil boys wading in the river and diving for what they thought was silver coins. Man did that river reek of its namesake! Hit several bars/clubs, had several San Miguels and a few cups full of MoJo. Did the nasty with a decent bar gal and still managed to get back to the ship in the a.m. with about $7 in pocket. 2nd time in O.C., went to the Jolo Club, watched a few gals suck some coins up from my empty bottle of San Miguel with their punani and spit one by one back onto the table. All my boys had gals and the gals scrambled like ants at a picnic picking up coins with napkins and wiping them down with the tablecloth and putting them into their purses. Fricken hilarious! Then came the stage show. 2 gals, a blanket and a huge hog that mounted one of the gals for about a 15 minute ride. I guess that was the equivalent of the old donkey shows in TJ. All in all, best time I ever had as a 17 y/o from L.A., Calif. GO NAVY!!!!
  • I was there in 1971-72. I could do the same with five dollars back then.
