The Orthodox Cathedral was built between 1902-04 in Byzantine style, the architecture being inspired by Saint Sofia in Istanbul, after the plans of architects Virgil Nagy and Kommer József in Budapest. The frescoes and dome paintings were made by Octavian Smigelschi and Arthur Coulin.
It is one of the largest orthodox churches in the country.
