Nevada Landing Hotel and Casino (site) (Jean, Nevada)

USA / Nevada / Goodsprings / Jean, Nevada
historical layer / disappeared object  Add category

The Nevada Landing was a hotel and casino opened in 1989, designed to resemble 2 riverboats.
The hotel, owned by MGM Mirage, had 303 rooms, four restaurants, over 800 slot and video poker machines, and all the other stuff typical to a hotel / casino.

On February 12, 2007 MGM Mirage announced plans to close the casino on April 18, 2007 and build a master-planned community on the 166 acres it owns in the area in a joint venture with American Nevada Corp. and the Cloobeck Co.
The community is to include "affordable" housing, commercial businesses, shops and a new hotel-casino. The Gold Strike will remain open at least until the new hotel-casino is completed.

On March 20, 2007 MGM Mirage closed the Nevada Landing in Jean almost a month earlier than it originally planned.

9 August 2008--According to Wikipedia, NV Landing was demolished in March 2008: only the sign remains. Then, a few days before this comment was written, they announced that the entire Jean renovation project had been abandoned due to worsening economic conditions. Echelon Place on the site of the old Stardust in Las Vegas was also put on hold, for three or four quarters at least (read: indefinitely). This will probably not be the last project in the area to founder. No word yet on the fate of the Gold Strike.
