  • Ok, again, enough with the anti-wilderness rants Mr. PCMaps. Thank goodness these places are designated wilderness so ATV junkies can't just rip the land to pieces like they do everywhere else. I've got a place in the Canyonlands of Utah (a.k.a. savage the land for a dollar) and I can't begin to describe the destruction the tourism amenities-based business has done there. These areas around Baker, CA are stunning. I've spent more than 30 years exploring them on foot and I hope the wilderness designations can survive the greed of man.
  • Sir Gary: You are truly blessed you can explore our beautiful country on foot. Sadly, not everyone is so fortunate. Wilderness designation says to the elderly, the handicapped, to the infirm - You are not welcome. In fact, you are prohibited by law from ever seeing this place. Some truly amazing Americans just lost their legs in Boston. I don't see how we as a people can, in any conscious, support laws that expressly prohibit those very people, and millions of other Americans similarly disadvantaged, from ever visiting some of the most beautiful and treasured parts of our Country. Our beautiful land should be accessible to everyone, and not reserved to just those who have already been blessed with the ability to hike.
