  • Okay furthering the bitter note from the previous poster if you can't hike long distances don't come here. Good. Get on a good athletic program, stop eating fast food and when you're good and healthy head out here otherwise you'll probably die. I've seen too many bodies come out of these extreme places because people are simply not prepared so just stay home and experience it on the internet. But if you are in good shape and have some common sense these places are great for true solitude!
  • Sir Gary: You are truly blessed you can hike long distances in our beautiful desert. Sadly, not everyone is so fortunate. Wilderness designation doesn't deny access just to the out-of-shape. Wilderness designation denies access to the elderly, the handicapped, the infirm; saying to them - You are Not welcome. In fact, you are prohibited by law from ever seeing this place. Some truly amazing Americans just lost their legs in Boston; thousand of Americans have lost limbs in Iraq & Afghanistan. I don't see how we as a people can, in any conscious, support laws that expressly prohibit these very people, and millions of other Americans similarly disadvantaged, from ever visiting some of the most beautiful and treasured parts of our Country. Our beautiful land should be accessible to everyone, and not reserved to just those who have already been blessed with the athletic ability to hike.
