Abandoned pioneer townsite. Location of first post office in Minnesota in 1840. Once considered as the location for an early US fort, until Fort Snelling was built. An early military road was built between Pt. Douglas and Superior, WI in the mid 1800's, which carried mail and stage traffic regularly until the railroad was built, which almost immediately turned all towns along this route into ghost towns.
Today, only a few modern buildings hug the shore, but foundations from some of the original buildings still exist in the hillside.
Point Douglas County park now occupies the eastern end of the site.
