Previously the terminal for the New York Central Railroad. The famed 20th Century Limited used to operate between here and New York City. The current station opened in 1981 and replaced a previous one which opened in 1866.

Scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" and Academy Award winner "The Sting" were filmed at the old LaSalle Street Station.
