Provides weather observations including surface data (temperature, precipitation, etc.), upper air data (an instrument called a radiosonde is attached to a weather balloon and measures pressure, temperature, and humidity as it rises, with wind determined by tracking the balloon with GPS as it drifts with the wind), and radar (mounted on the tall tower).

The Meteorological office at Alice Springs provides forecasts for Central Australia and weather information to the local community. The office is staffed by Technical Officers (Observers) and Technical Officers (Meteorology) who provide coverage of weather phenomena 7 days per week.
