Metro Detroit's first shopping center opened in 1954 by the J.L. Hudson Company. Originally open-air, all deliveries were made via underground tunnels. The center was enclosed in 1974.

Target closed on February 1st, 2015, and the Macy's, the last remaining anchor, closed in late March. The mall closed after April 15.

Comments

  • Allegedly the first regional shopping center in the US (many other malls take that claim). This mall opened in 1954 with a large Hudson's department store. Hudson's became Marshall Field's in 2001 and Macy's in 2006. Other anchors include National Wholesale Liquidators and Target.
