Prasanna Virupaksha temple (Hampi)

India / Karnataka / Kamalapuram / Hampi
place with historical importance, hindu temple

The local guides mistakenly refer it by the name "underground temple". This misnomer is due to the fact that the temple is situated at a depth lower than the current roads. the interesting fact about this temple is that the linga-yoni is under water. the temple is connected to some sub-terrain passageway to the Tungabhadra river. The front entrance is blocked by water but a window to the eastern side of the temple opens into the garva-griha.
