Strathclyde Graduate School of Business , one of the premier B-School in Europe - Courses taught : MBA, MBM and MIM

When opened in 1992, this was the University's proudest creation - look in any early 1990s Strathclyde prospectus and you'll see pictures of the GBS everywhere. The first really half decent teaching building to go up since the 1964 merger it was completely self contained....there is a library, a restuarant - and even a hotel on the two upper floors!

So proud was the University of the GBS, in the early years it even employed heavies on the entrances to stop us unwashed undergraduates from treading its fine carpets and embarrassing the businesspeople they were trying to attract. That all ended when mega-rich aluminus Sir Tom Hunter gentrified us all and set up his Entrepreneurship Centre in the good 'ol Livvy.

Suddenly the GBS didn't matter as much.

  • The best business school in Scotland ....undoubtedly..... known for its full-time MBA program
  • You were right about them not wanting people in certain areas, I went in looking for the toilet, walked through a door and when it turned out nothing was behind it except stairs, the door had locked behind me, wound up having to go through the Sir William Duncan Building for escape.
