Checkpoint-C.
This was the official entry/exit portal between "east" and "west" Germany within the city of Berlin. The other two crossings for US military personnel and other non-Germans were Checkpoint-A near Helmstedt and Checkpoint-B at the southwest corner of Berlin at near Wannsee.
Mock-up of the former border crossing checkpoint between East and West Berlin. (The original is in the Allied Museum in Berlin-Zehlendorf.) Note the dude in a Soviet uniform holding an American flag. (!) The original guard post never had any sandbags, not even at the height of the USA / USSR border crisis.
Black and white photo by PFC Victor Day (dated 13 September 1966) depicts SP/4 Bob Mendenhall of the 94th Artillery pointing out the Soviet Sector to newly arrived troops of the Berlin Brigade as they stand by the original guard shack, just within the American Sector.
