Named in honor of Maj. Gen. Jacob Brown, hero of the War of 1812.

Brown County is known as one of Indiana's most mountainous counties, also one of if not the least densely populated county in the state. Located in the Hoosier Hills area of South Central Indiana, the terrain is a little on the rugged side and has by far the highest percentage of forested grounds of Indiana's 92 counties at nearly 90%.

Brown County's only town of 500+ is its county seat, Nashville.

Brown County is best known as the home of Brown County State Park, the largest in Indiana at 16,000 acres.

  • Number 16 in my list of counties to be traced out. Anybody living in these counties that wishes to put in information about them is more than welcome to. I only know more about Southwestern Indiana than the rest of the state, so I am only limited to what information I do know about them.
