This is the main camp for the Hope Bay Gold Project.
Hope Bay Project (Doris North), Nunavut, Canada
The Hope Bay Project is in the early stages of project development. The property spans 1,000 km2 and is located on Inuit owned land in the West Kitikmeot region of Nunavut, approximately 160 km southwest of Cambridge Bay. The nearest communities are Umingmaktok, 65 km west, and Bathurst Inlet, 110 km southwest. The nearest former mines in the region include Echo Bay’s Lupin Mine (250 km away) and the Jericho Diamond Mine (230 km away). To date, 3 significant gold deposits have been discovered in this greenstone belt: Doris North, a few miles from the Arctic Ocean; Madrid, approximately 5 miles inland from Doris; and Boston, approximately 27 miles south of Madrid.
Nuna's Role
Since 1991 NUNA has worked closely with Miramar Mining (former property owner) with respect to project planning, design and cost estimates. NUNA continues that process under Hope Bay’s new owners, Newmont Mining Corporation.
In 2007, NUNA mobilized into site via barge; equipment, supplies and a crew of 37 to provide site services, construction of the Windy Lake 2,800' airstrip, camp pad, tote road, crushing and construction and maintenance of seasonal ice access roads (Roberts Bay to the Doris North site).
Late 2009, Newmont Corporation and NUNA Logistics Limited joined forces and formed an Integrated Team with NUNA being the Project Contractor. The services to be performed center on technical services, engineering, material management, contract management and administration, project controls, study work and other professional services. In 2010, NUNA again mobilized into the Hope Bay site to commence construction and earthworks for:
underground mining;
tailings storage facility;
maintenance shops, administration offices, warehouse and other non-process buildings;
permanent camp facility;
access roads and miscellaneous civil works;
potable water supply, storage, treatment and distribution;
sanitary sewage treatment systems landfills and waste incineration systems;
power supply and distribution;
communication systems, temporary and permanent; and
appropriate security facilities for the underground development, plant facilities, administration and camp.
