  This is the site of the original Alm's Houses built by Sir Thomas Guy, who at the time was member of parliament for the area. Such was his disgust at not being re-elected he made sure that residents of Tamworth could not live in the Alm's Houses, but only residents from the hamlets surrounding the town. This is still adhered to to this day. Sir Thomas then took his money and invested in Guys Hospital, London. Tamworth's loss, Londons gain!
