The Krolloper was located on this site. It was built in 1844 and used as an opera house from 1851 on. After the Reichstag fire in 1933 destroyed that building, the Reichstag body met in the Kroll until the body disbanded in 1943, giving Hitler unlimited power. The Kroll was heavily damaged in the Second World War and the ruins were demolished in 1951.
