Part of the Mojave-Rosamond mining district, Middle Butte was one of five buttes associated with mining located in the Antelope Valley. The Cactus Queen was opened here in 1934, which saw a revitalization of mining in this area as many old mines were reopened. More than $5 million in gold was pulled out of the Burton-Brite-Blank, Cactus, and Cactus Queen mines here.
