Dedicated: April 1, 1960
Addition planned for 2014

Kettering Hall was constructed in 1960, and a major renovation is planned for the near future, made possible by a donation from the USDA. Construction of the three-story building named for Ohio inventor and philanthropist Charles F. Kettering was made possible by gifts from over 200 industrial firms and foundations.

Chief among the donors were the Kettering Foundation and the late Charles F. Kettering. A greenhouse was added on the south end of the building for use by the Agriculture Department.

The observatory, now on the roof of Kettering Hall, dates back to 1882. It stood on the site of the Goodman Carillon until moved to its present location.
